Congratulations to everyone for our outstanding accomplishment in the 2007 NAT! the very significant increase obtained in the 2007 NAT. Davao del Sur is rank 2 in the region and rank 56 among the 186 division nationwide. What a milestone indeed. Our efforts and sacrifices have truly paid off. With this, I know that everyone will be inspired to work better and harder this SY 2007-2008. But wait.. this is no reason for us to relax and be complacent . There is still for everyone of us. so much to do because sad to say, we are yet way down below the passing mark of 75%!. The huge challenge lies ahead of us.. not only to maintain our 2007 gains but foremost to continue our steep climb uphill towards better student performance so that hopefully and eventually we shall be able to eliminate if not, narrow the gap between where we are and where we should be a long academic achievement. A tall order isn’t it ? Yet not impossible to achieved As Kung Fu said , “With the right attitude, everyone will have a happy ending.” In one MANCOM meeting last year, several factors were identified as causes of poor student performance. It’s still fresh in my mind when everyone pointed his accusing finger to poor student reading comprehension as the number one culprit! . So in that meeting every one pledged and committed to make reading as the focus of monitoring and evaluation. With the improved 2007 NAT results now I know more than ever before, you are determined to continue and enhance the tested and proven reading initiatives you have in your schools. Therefore in unison we say, “All systems go for Every Child a Reader Program (ECARP) all throughout the division this SY:2007-2008. As a starter, last May 23-28, 2007, in partnership with the National Book Development Board (NBDB) a training of trainers on Readership Enhancement and Advancement Program (READ) and Story Telling Strategy was conducted for the elementary and secondary levels. As its off-shoot, cluster and district echo seminar workshops have been lined up in the months of June and July . I enjoined all district and school officials to take the lead to ensure its success. I also urge the teachers to give this training their best shot because this is a 100% formula for us to produce not only readers but above all lovers of reading as well! Wouldn’t this be a good legacy to leave to our students?. To wind up, I wish you all the energy, the vim, the vigor and the enthusiasm to carry on the torch of quality education for the upcoming SY 2007-2008 and onwards Mabuhay and more power!
